A new car! (a la Bob Barker)

If anyone still reads our blog, I'd like to welcome you and apologize for the hiatus. Or if you are one that gets it automatically, well then you don't have much choice do you?

Jessie and I recently decided we deserved better. That is, she had been driving to and from Raleigh every day for four years or so in her old Jeep...not the ideal commuter vehicle. So we went car shopping. It was an adventure.

We were looking for a brand new vehicle and we knew we wanted a hatchback. The cars we were mulling over were the Mazda 3, Nissan Versa, or possibly a Volkswagen Golf. We happened by the Volkswagen dealership first and test drove a Golf. It was impressive. So impressive in fact, that it ruined our ability to make an unbiased comparison with the other vehicle brands we test drove, with  all the other vehicles we test drove feeling flimsy compared to the Golf. So we bought one.

We initially started the bidding at a Volkswagen dealership in North Raleigh. Most of the salespeople there (though not ours) were young and hip looking, but the manager there looked like your stereotypical car salesman circa 1980. Kind of like Roy Munson from the cinema classic Kingpin, real classy. He was not swayed by our threats to walk out when a deal couldn't be reached, so we walked out.

We then decided to make one more push and headed to the Volkswagen dealership in Cary (Thanks to my brother for being our impromptu smart phone and looking up directions to the place for us). This place was as I felt a Volkswagen dealership should be, the salespeople were wearing tye-dyed shirts! It felt like they were having a car buying party and everyone was invited. They had a much bigger selection too and it turned out that they had the exact vehicle we wanted. This time a deal was reached and Jessie happily drove home in her new ride, the 2012 Volkswagen Golf 4-door hatchback (No, not the diesel), while I followed behind in her old ride.

We still had to sell off the Jeep and were able to do so within a couple days of posting it on Craigslist. I never imagined it would go as fast as it did, but we were glad it did!
