For those keeping track, this is the 5th installment of our 7 or 8 part series: All Decked Out - The Remaking of Our Back Deck. When we last left you it was the middle of winter and we had just installed the brand new deck boards. Those boards are now seasoned and will be ready for staining possibly on the next dry weekend. But that's a tale for another time.
This tale begins a couple weeks ago with the painting of the railings. You can see the railings sans paint in our last Deck post, All Decked Out - Part 4: Deck-athalon. We decided the weather was going to cooperate, so we taped everything off and commenced to painting. Turns out painting railings and spindles is terrible work, though comparable in misery to sanding a deck with a 1/4 sheet palm sander.
Round 1 - Dozens of feet of railings, 17 4x4" posts, and 90 spindles
By the time we were done with Round 1, the area in which we had started was dry enough for another coat. So, right into Round 2 we went.
And again - Dozens of feet of railings, 17 4x4" posts, and 90 spindles
Miserable work, but the result looks sharp! Here's a couple shots of the freshly twice painted railings.
Now all we have left is to replace a few steps and stain!
