All Decked Out - Part 3: Undeck the halls

Hey Ma, look what we did over Christmas vacation!

With our stationary vacation spanning Christmas week plus a few days, we decided to try and pull up the old deck boards before the end of 2012 to get ready for re-decking in early 2013. If you are just joining us in this endeavor, I suggest you check out All Decked Out - Part 1 and Part 2 to get yourself up to speed. Our enthusiasm for accomplishing this task was brought on by my receipt of a reciprocating saw as a Christmas gift (Thanks Steve and Nanci!).

Here's a quick "before" picture for you (clearly not taken in the current season). Note that we have long since removed that useless bench and reinforced the railings.

And so we commenced to pullin' boards, armed with only a crowbar, a claw hammer, and a reciprocating saw. Many of the boards broke, left nails in the beams, and/or invoked swearing. I should mention that it was not warm enough for a t-shirt (< 40 F), had to keep working to stay warm.

And then with only minor seriously sore muscles, the boards were all gone.

I was happy, Jessie was happy, and the truck was happy that for once it got to do truck-like things. Two loads to the dump, in fact.
